Free to Speak Your Mind? Really?

We are stuck...we are stuck in a snowdrift. This snowdrift is a combination of popular ideas and constructs of our time that have been scooped up into a huge pile of rubble, the individual opinion are gone only the mass remains. College Campuses are the worst in this respect. Students come from all walks of life to find their path, to find their opinions. But the list of ideas to chose from, consider, or discuss is small and dwindling. And ideas are only subjects unless they are discussed and acted on. The problem is then that the snowdrift, this mass of singular opinions has become to declare alot of idea unacceptable for discussion or consideration, maybe to even the point of declaring the subject matter and the person considereing it evil. 

That is the problem. If you don't conform to be a part of the snowdrift you are declared bad, evil, etc. But in order to fix this we need to be willing to do one thing: talk.

By talk, I mean have an open conversation, where every subject can be discussed and every opinion can be heard. THat conversation can be as formal or informal as one wants. If one wants a very formal and structured conversation we could look to something of the model of Hillsdale College's Online class about the constitution which modeled in a more classroom environment. http://lp.hillsdale.edu/introduction-to-the-constitution-en/

Or maybe it is commenting on a very to the point podcast  such as Sean Whalen's The Revolution Podcast. 

Or maybe it is as simple as a group of friends getting coffee and exchanging views. Opinions on culture, society, religion, sexuality, politics, etc dont have to be this emtional argument that simply ends up being an argument about who is right. 

Lets just talk. Lets be emotional, but lets not let that make are opinions useless. Let listen, talk and discuss issues of the present that need clarification or need to change or whatever. Let discuss everything. Let question everything. From the things that bring us great joy to the things that make are skin crawl. Lets use that discussion to open the eye's of society and to not be afraid of the different.
